In the pages of an Art Journal - 1 & 2

Hi!  I have been dabbling with mixed media a bit lately so I decided to begin an art journal.  The pages will contain my fledgling experiments!  The first two pages in no way reflect the cool journal pages I have seen on Pinterest, blogs and galleries but these are my beginnings!

I fell in love with mixed media primarily because of my visits to Mona Pendleton's  blog so it seems fitting that my first two pages are created with the help of   "A Mixed Media Color Challenge".  It's a fun new challenge with gorgeous inspiration from the DT!

I thought this sentiment was a clever way to begin my journal.  The original color of paint on the page is called Bahama Blue and looks just like the eggs in the inspiration photo but the layers of gesso and smeared ink ended up lightening the page so much that the end result almost looks more like a soft blue.

Thank you to Janeen for giving me some advice on how to finish my first page!

Since I wasn't totally happy with what I had done on the first page, I went to work on page 2 and the second page is the one I am entering into "A Mixed Media Color Challenge" and Just Us Girls #197 .

(The clips are temporarily holding the pages down so that I could photograph the page)

As you can see, regarding the color, I learned from my first page and did not add so many layers of  gesso. This time the bahama blue paint stayed a bit truer to the color challenge.  I stenciled the hexagon pattern with TH Broken China then painted "MPD Destressed Background Blocks" with acrylic paint.  After it was dry I stamped the dots again, this time with MFT Kraft ink. ( I love that ink!  It kind of soaks into the paper leaving a wonderful soft aged look.) I then layered on watered down gesso.

I took inspiration from the middle photo on the challenge board and used TH Distress Crackle Paint to imitate the worn and distressed wood.

I chose the word HOPE as the word for this page and on the back of the page I have written a sentence of hope as well as three scriptures to inspire me in HOPE!
TFL!
