Speedy Fox & Friends 199 - Chalk

Happy Saturday everyone!!!!!!!  Oh my word, what was your weather like this week?  We had an ice storm with major power outages.  No drama getting home from work this week as lessons were learned from two weeks ago.  Steve and two GDOT trucks had the interstate completely to themselves on the drive home from work Tuesday.  Wednesday when our power went out I still had a few card deadlines to meet so I bundled up in 3 layers, wore an ear warmer headband, gloves without finger tips that I made myself by cutting off the tips of an old pair and sat in the gloom coloring up an image.  The finished card will be on the SCS site later today as one of the Dirty Dozen challenges if you want to take a looksie!

With Ice drama behind us, I set to work on this week's Speedy Fox & Friends Challenge which is to use chalk.  I chalked the water and edges of the sentiment in blue.

While Janeen visited she showed me how to make paper puff up!  There is probably a technical term for this but I don't know it.  I have used my stylus to curl flowers and leaves but I had never curled paper from the back side of an image.  It certainly adds fun dimension!

Stop on by Mark's Finest Papers & Stamps blog to view more design team creations and enter your card into the challenge!

To create this card I used Birds of the Orient and Marsh Silhouettes.

It doesn't take a lot of ice to bring down the pine branches!

I braved the elements to take my "snow shot" down our road.  Don't laugh!  Branches were popping and falling all around me!  :)

Storm doesn't like the snow.  She yowled and came right up to me, otherwise she likes to climb up the nearest tree or run off into the woods to make new friends!

  1. Nice card and lovely photos of the wintry scene. Love the one of you, Steve and Storm. Your card making in the gloom reminds me of essay writing by candlelight when at college. The power cuts were quite frequent due to strikes.

  3. A very nice clean and layered card, Angie. It's a wonderful image to remind us all that summer really isn't that far off, and it warms my heart to think of putting sandals on again (she smiles). As for your weather. Angie, I'm glad you're all safe and sound now. Were you out looking for Storm? And, I too think the photo of you, Steve, and Storm is such a nice photo - very nice.

  4. A beautiful card and the water looks great chalked. I love how you puffed up the bird. I have done this with flowers, but never thought of doing it to other things. Thanks, for the tip.

Sorry you are dealing with more bad weather. Hope everyone's power has been restored.

  5. The card is beautiful. The chalk edging is a nice effect. Did a a great job on the crane. I love molding the edges of cutouts. It's a kind of paper sculpture and it's cool.

  6. Great card Angie, you did well with it. I like the peaceful blues and clean look of it. I just showed Sarah the Owl card in real life and she loved it. Said it was cute on the photo but so much more IRL. --glad you are safe too, those branches coming down can take a person's life. ouch on the camper.

  11. Storm has this look like "don't drop me in that wet stuff, lady!" She's so pretty and black. Sorry to hear that you lost power but good that you could bundle up and make the most of it. Gorgeous card! And I don't know what they call that technique to puff up paper. At least you described it better than me... take that pointy thing and rub it on your image.... yeah, very technical.
