Gesso Resist Tutorial for Prickley Pear Rubber Stamps

Hi!  Today I am going to share one of my favorite techniques using gesso.

This is what you will need to create the background:
Gesso
Distress Stain
Credit or Gift card
Heavy Paper (I use mixed media paper)

Place a bit of gesso on craft mat, using credit or gift card, pick up some gesso on end of card.

This next step is the tricky part but it's also the fun part!  Holding the plastic card as flat to the paper as you can, lightly drag it down the length of the card stock.  You don't want to have a solid covering of gesso so keeping the plastic card flat will aid with that. (I usually practice a bit before I use my expensive paper)

Allow to dry completely before next step.

Last step:  have fun staining!!!  I press my dauber onto the craft mat to get the stain flowing then I liberally add stain to the card stock.  The gesso resists the stain giving you a fun unique background every time you use this technique!  For a bit of a finish I used distress ink on the edges of the card stock.

For my finished card I used the sweet birds: Black Capped Chickadees Red Rubber Stamp and Happy Spring 2 Red Rubber Stamp for the sentiment.  I also used Scallop Circle Nesting Die to frame the image.

Happy Creating!!!

Prickley Pear Rubber Stamp Monday Inspiration - Lucky Charm

Happy Monday!!!!  Phew, it's a bit of a difficult Monday this week trying to get back in the swing of things after a wonderful week of vacation.

As we are in the last week of February (can you believe that?) I thought I would start getting ready for a wee bit of green with a Lucky Charm card .

I used the Clover circle stamp and Lucky Charm sentiment from PPRS  CLR013D Scalloped Circle Oval 5 Clear Stamp to take center stage and I used PPRS-D041 Scallop Circle Nesting Die for the green circle frame.

I hope you will hop on by Prickley Pear Rubber Stamps Blog to see more Monday Inspiration our talented Design Team has created for you today!

Speedy Fox & Friends 200 - ABC

Hi there!  I hope you are having a great Saturday!  We have been gone all week so today I have chosen a quick project to share.  The challenge this week at  Speedy Fox & Friends is ABC - Anything But a Card.  I decided on tags for my project.

For both tags I used the small fan image from "Umbrellas and Fans" and used the emboss resist technique.

I added flowers and butterflies for some added dimension since I will use this on a gift.

I plan to use this tag as a bookmark so I kept it one layer.

I hope you will stop on by  Speedy Fox & Friends blog and enter your project for a chance to win a prize.  While you are there you can check out the fab creations from the rest of the design team!

Have a great weekend!

Speedy Fox & Friends 199 - Chalk

Happy Saturday everyone!!!!!!!  Oh my word, what was your weather like this week?  We had an ice storm with major power outages.  No drama getting home from work this week as lessons were learned from two weeks ago.  Steve and two GDOT trucks had the interstate completely to themselves on the drive home from work Tuesday.  Wednesday when our power went out I still had a few card deadlines to meet so I bundled up in 3 layers, wore an ear warmer headband, gloves without finger tips that I made myself by cutting off the tips of an old pair and sat in the gloom coloring up an image.  The finished card will be on the SCS site later today as one of the Dirty Dozen challenges if you want to take a looksie!

With Ice drama behind us, I set to work on this week's Speedy Fox & Friends Challenge which is to use chalk.  I chalked the water and edges of the sentiment in blue.

While Janeen visited she showed me how to make paper puff up!  There is probably a technical term for this but I don't know it.  I have used my stylus to curl flowers and leaves but I had never curled paper from the back side of an image.  It certainly adds fun dimension!

Stop on by Mark's Finest Papers & Stamps blog to view more design team creations and enter your card into the challenge!

To create this card I used Birds of the Orient and Marsh Silhouettes.

It doesn't take a lot of ice to bring down the pine branches!

I braved the elements to take my "snow shot" down our road.  Don't laugh!  Branches were popping and falling all around me!  :)

Storm doesn't like the snow.  She yowled and came right up to me, otherwise she likes to climb up the nearest tree or run off into the woods to make new friends!

Prickley Pear Rubber Stamps Monday Inspiration

Hello again Monday!  Here's wishing warmer weather to all those that have experienced unreasonable winter weather this year!  Maybe a little Prickley Pear Rubber Stamps Monday Inspiration will warm us up!

My first card has a bit of a masculine flair......
I used Scalloped Circle Oval 5 and Scallop Oval Nesting Die.  I just love the stamped gears for this oval and how perfectly it fits inside the oval die cut!

I had so much fun creating my next card!!!  I created this one while Janeen was here.  We had ourselves a little Prickley Pear Rubber Stamping party and this is the result:

Penny is so cute and lots of fun to color! I couldn't wait to get her out and color her up in green this time.
I also added a butterfly from the Mini Butterflies die set and stamped the antenna from the coordinating stamp set, Mini Butterflies 2 Clear Set

While I was busy with Penny, Janeen was busy with Bailey!  I have a little peak at Bailey for you but to view all of the cuteness you can visit Janeen, here

Speedy Fox & Friends - Torn Paper

Hullo there!  I hope you have had a good week.  I had a very special week as a stamping friend came to visit for a few days!  Hard to believe we didn't know one another three years ago and had never met in person before this week and now I have a new sister!  Janeen is not only a beautiful person with an eye for color and detail when it comes to paper crafting but she is also super talented in the kitchen and  cooked for us each night!  YUM.  I am so disappointed I didn't stop to take a few pics of Janeen in the kitchen!

We did get to stamp together a bit so in an upcoming post I will share a couple of photos of projects we created but for now it's time to turn our attention to this week's Speedy Fox & Friends challenge. This week we are adding torn paper to cards.  Check out all the details on the challenge and the beautiful projects the designers have come up with here at Speedy Fox & Friends challenge .

I had a lot of fun with this!  I am sneak peaking a new set (Mark's Finest Papers & Stamps a HC - Fairies) today.  The Fairies set will be one of the sets showcased in  Mark's Finest Papers & Stamps February blog hop next week so I hope you will check that out starting on Sunday!

I stamped the fairy then masked her and added the mushrooms (Mark's Finest Papers & Stamps a HC - Garden Art).  She is drawn perfectly to sit on these mushrooms!  For the last bit of fairy touch, I added glitter to her wings.

I created the inside of the card using the mushroom stamp that comes with the set and added the Sprite silhouettes plus the sentiment.

Speedy Fox & Friends - Gesso

Happy Saturday everyone!  I hope you are enjoying this first Saturday in February!  We weathered Snowjam2014 and are still here to tell about it!  :)  It was quite the adventure.  My husband's commute home was quite tense as cars crawled and slid.  His 45 minute commute ended up taking him 4 hours!  Which in no way set any records in Atlanta.  Most would say he got off easy as many were stuck in their cars 12 - 21 hours!

All the excitement is behind us now and things are getting back to normal just in time for this week's Speedy Fox & Friends Challenge.  This week we are going to use Gesso or white paint on our cards.  I chose one of my favorite techniques: Gesso Resist to create an interesting backdrop for the swans.

For the inside I kept it very simple with one swan and a sentiment.
