Seed Packet Wishes with a Vintage Twist

Hello everyone!

A blend of creativity inspired today’s vintage seed packet handmade card from a couple of challenges at Splitcoaststampers along with this week’s Art Nudge—and I have to say, I love how these layered ideas came together into one cohesive design.

For the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge, a beautiful tile site filled with rich patterns and colors inspired us. The Angelic Simple Wildflower tile with its deep navy background, sunflower-like center, and accents of red and light blue, inspired my design. I leaned into those rich tones for my card, choosing to focus on the navy, sunflower yellow, and red, while letting the lighter blue fall away.

Next, I incorporated the Splitcoaststampers Monthly Theme and Sketch Challenge into my layout. The sketch provided a wonderful structure, guiding me to include a circular focal element, which worked perfectly with my overall design.

Finally, I drew inspiration from Art Nudge 426C, which features a softly vintage image of a teacup with a flower floating inside. While I didn’t include a literal teacup or daisy, the round composition, the floral focal point, and the gentle, aged feel of the image inspired me.

Process:

I started with a navy background to echo the richness of the tile inspiration. For the focal layers, I die cut a scalloped circle using patterned paper from the Peas & Carrots paper pack by SweetMissDaisy Designs, following the sketch layout. I layered an additional patterned circle on top to add depth and interest.

For the main element, I stamped the seed packet image from the Sow with Love stamp set and customized it with a sunflower to reflect the tile’s focal design. After fussy-cutting the packet, I rounded the corners and added distressing with Vintage Photo and Lumberjack Plaid Distress Inks to give it that worn, time-loved look.

To finish the card, I added a “Dear Friend” sentiment on a soft oval tag, keeping the overall feel warm and heartfelt.

Although I didn’t directly include a teacup or daisy, I love how the influence of the Art Nudge still comes through in the circular shapes, floral theme, and vintage styling.  Play along with a chance to win a prize at the Art Nudge Blog.

Hello! It's Designer's Choice day at Impression Obsession and I have chosen the lovely Sunflower Season stamp set.

In my early childhood, we lived in Kansas. I fondly remember walking to and from school and seeing all the pretty sunflowers peeping over fences. My sister recently moved closer to our childhood state and now grows sunflowers! I didn't realize that we both shared a love of sunflowers.

Color blocks for Watercolor Wednesday

Hi!  It's time for this week's Watercolor Wednesday Challenge.  It's my turn to choose our tutorial and I forgot two things.  1) I don't do measuring and aligning well, 2) I don't doodle.  Totally laughing at myself because that is basically what this challenge is!  

My first card uses my less expensive paper.  It really took the water, paint, and salt well, I think.  I would use it again for something like this.  My only issue with it is the hard lines can be seen on the tape lines.  I added Sizzix/THoltz wildflowers.  (because like, I said, I can't doodle)

This version is on 100% Cotton, the good stuff!  This shows the salt better because 100% cotton stays wet longer.  Oh, check out the bursts of color.  Can you believe I doodled on the good one?  Well, here you go.  After trying for light and pretty flowers on a piece of scrap paper, with no success, I might add, I did this.  I looked at the wildflower dies and loosely used one of the dies as a jumping-off spot for my wildflower.

Thoughts of You

We have a new challenge up for Watercolor Wednesday at SCS!

The challenge is beautiful with a very colorful background but I am still feeling blue & yellow so I went strictly with a blue background.  I will be adding this to the IG account #cardsforukraine.  The outpouring of the world's artists is so moving and the talent in there is amazing!  I hope you will stop by and visit the account if you haven't already.  #cardsforukraine

Dandelion Dreams in Watercolor

 Hello!  It's Watercolor Wednesday and I am hosting this week.  I have chosen a fun tutorial from Whitehouse Art.  

Full disclosure, I tried to follow Lisa's tutorial three times and just couldn't get the hang of the dandelion.  I think I was getting closer and would love to practice some more when I didn't have a time limit set for myself.  For this fourth try, I used a stamp in very light Fade Out ink for the outline of my dandelion.  The sentiment stamp is from Impression Obsession: Joy.

I love pretty mugs of tea or coffee and I also enjoy the theme for cardmaking!   I stamped the Vine Circle on cardstock and then used the Big Mug Die to cut it out.  The sentiment is from Coffee Mug Sayings and lastly, I cut a background from the Crazy Stitched Set.

Hello! Today, I have a fun card to share and a bonus watercolor card.  First up is this whimsical veggie card.  I am playing along with the Teapot Challenge - back to school.  I have a teacher that is near and dear to me. I think she is going to get a laugh out of these veggies.  My sis went to college in her 50's and graduated Summa Cum Laud with a previous education of only 5th grade!  I am so proud of her.  This is her first year as a teacher.  I can't imagine being able to maintain focus in 2020 to graduate let alone begin teaching in 2021 with all the craziness that is still in the air.  Literally.  I know she has been putting in 13 hour days so I am really rooting for her!

Sending Smiles with a MISTI

 Hi!  Today I am over at the My Sweet Petunia Blog featuring this card made with the beautiful Misted Watercolor Technique.   

 

It took me a REALLY long time to decide on a sentiment for this card but I finally decided on "sending smiles".  Speaking of smiles, one thing that really makes me smile is creating projects with my MISTI!  I would not want to try to stamp on watercolor paper without a MISTI as this required double stamping to achieve complete ink coverage. I would never have gotten the stamp to match exactly without a MISTI and that would have meant wasted paper and time!

  When using dark cardstock for the card base I like to add a Double Dip Notepaper on the inside.  Not only does it create a nice place to add a sentiment but it lets the recipient know it's ok to pass the card on! Head to the MISTI Shop for MISTIS, fun stamping tools, and more!
