Back to Basics with a Bright Twist

Hello everyone!

This week’s Free 4 All Challenge at Splitcoaststampers takes us right back to basics — black and white, with just one pop of color allowed. Simple rules, big impact… and honestly, this kind of challenge is one of my favorites.

For my card, I started with the Linked background stamp by SweetMissDaisy Designs, stamping it in rich black ink on crisp white cardstock. The contrast is striking, and those detailed lines really shine when you let them do all the talking.

Next, I die cut a bold black arch and layered it with a smaller white arch to frame the focal image. Inside that white arch, I stamped the sweet Snow Couple. To extend the scene, I flipped the stamp at the top to continue the snowy sky — such a fun little trick that adds depth without extra supplies.

I added a few die cut snowflakes to the top and lower corner for texture and movement. For my one allowed pop of color, I chose sunny yellow, coloring the scarves, hats, gloves, stars, and broom. Since Mr. Snowman is holding a star wreath, sticking with one cheerful color felt both intentional and cohesive.

The sentiment ties it all together perfectly:
“Goodbye winter, hello sunshine.”
That pop of yellow truly feels like a hint of spring peeking through the cold.

I’m also entering this card into this month’s Fan Club Christmas Challenge, as it fits the prompt beautifully.
