Ricky Raccoon and Text Paper Charm

Hello friends! Today I am sharing a handmade friendship card featuring the adorable Ricky Raccoon by SweetMissDaisy Designs. I created this card for the Splitcoaststampers challenge I am hosting this week, and our theme is all about using text or script on our designs.

One thing I really love about the Penelope’s Garden text stamp is that it allows me to create my own “book paper” look on sturdy cardstock. That means I can watercolor, blend inks, or use markers without worrying about thin book pages tearing or buckling. It’s such a fun and versatile technique for card making!

Process

I began by stamping the Penelope’s Garden text background onto a 4 x 4¼ inch piece of cardstock using Espresso Truffle ink by Memento. I love this softer brown shade because it gives the look of vintage book paper while allowing the focal image to stand out beautifully.

Next, I stamped the sweet Ricky Raccoon image by SweetMissDaisy Designs right in the center of the panel. I colored Ricky in rich browns and black tones, then added a soft lilac daisy for a gentle pop of color. The floral detail pairs perfectly with the spring-inspired patterned paper.

To finish the design, I added a coordinating banner and three tiny black gems for a simple embellishment. The green patterned paper and banner were both selected from the Spring Paper Pack by SweetMissDaisy Designs.

The sentiment says it perfectly: “I Couldn’t Pick a Better Friend.”

If you’d like to recreate this look, you can find the stamps and papers I used over at the SweetMissDaisy Designs Shop. You can easily adapt this handmade card design using your favorite stamps, patterned papers, book paper, embossing folders, or handwritten text techniques. Card making is such a wonderful way to share creativity while sending something meaningful and handmade.

I hope this project inspires you to create your own cheerful greeting featuring text or script backgrounds!
