Waiting For Your Footprints - Handmade Pet Card

Waiting for Your Footsteps – A Heartfelt Handmade Pet Card for National Pet Week

Happy National Pet Week! This week, Pajama Crafter Stamps is celebrating all week long over on Instagram, and today it’s my turn to share a card inspired by one very special pup.

Last week, I created a card featuring Gimli, my sister’s adorable new rescue. It only felt right that this week Bilbo Baggins—my grand dog—gets his moment of fame! 💛

There’s just something so comforting about the way our pets wait for us. Whether it’s by the door or just around the corner, they always seem to know when we’re coming home. That feeling became the heart of today’s card.

Card Design & Process

I started with a piece of golden patterned paper from the Birthday Bash paper pack by Pajama Crafter Stamps. Even though it’s a subtle detail in the finished card, the soft texture adds such a beautiful warmth and elevates the entire design beyond simple cardstock.

Next, I die cut a clean layer and stamped the Forever Loved image—perfect for capturing that loyal, loving spirit our pets give so freely.

For my color palette, I leaned into cheerful primary tones:

  • Bright blue for the bold, door
  • Warm yellow for the lightpost glow
  • Rich browns for Bilbo
  • Pops of bright red for the hearts

And those sweet little hearts? They’re actually from the Dinomite Birthday set! I love mixing and matching stamps—it’s such a fun way to stretch your supplies and create something uniquely yours.

I finished the card with a simple labeled sentiment:
“Always waiting for your footsteps.”
Such a small phrase, but it carries so much love.

I couldn't resist a bit of sparkle on the lamppost, hearts, doorknob, and keyhole!

A Little Pet Love

Do your pets wait for your footsteps too? Our cats are usually nearby when we come in—and if they aren’t at the door, they appear within seconds as if they’ve been there all along. 🐱

I’d love to hear about your pets—past or present—and their names. There’s something so special about sharing those memories.

Make It Your Own

This design is easy to adapt:

  • Use your own pet’s coloring for a personalized touch
  • Swap colors for different moods or seasons
  • Turn it into a Rainbow Bridge card for a heartfelt tribute

Card making is such a beautiful way to combine creativity with meaning—especially when it celebrates the animals who bring so much love into our lives.

If you’d like more inspiration, you might enjoy last week’s card featuring Gimli with a pop of color in that teal door—or for fellow cat lovers, my Meowentine Magic project!
